Easy graphic enhancement : full textures display
Hi.
I know this is not the first thread about graphics/textures. Searched both keywords separately using search box, found several threads each time.
BUT 1) all those threads are very old 2) each of them explain an idea which is different from mine
I know they will not completly rework game graphics (that's GW2's job).
I know they will not change all textures not even do something which could made people who still play GW using an old PC unable to play.
Here is the precise thing I would like to be changed : many decor elements are replaced with realy-extremely-low textures when they are far from the player, and they appear at full beauty as we get closer. That was a very cool optimization back in 2005 to make the game look good but still have it run on medium PCs.
We're now in 2011, many players have PCs which could display 5 instances of gw in full HD, and those decor elements are realy ... ugly.
Here is my idea : make an OPTION (so that players with old PC just don't check it) to disable that feature. No need to make new textures, no need to change graphics, just display existing textures/details at full beauty, regardless how far from things the player is.
(this idea could also be true for details which are not displayed depending on the zoom : how comes Eowin loses so many details when I zoom out ?)

That's a common feature on a lot of first rpgs and person shooters I have played and its usually customisable.
but if its easy to code then why not signed/

If its possible, im down for it. Distance shots tend to make the worst Screen Caps as a result, so im down.

The developers have designed many things with those effects in mind. The Southern Shiverpeaks, Divinity Coast, and other areas have used this effect to make structures and mountains in the distance seem taller than they are in relation to the player.
Go to the Lion's Keep and you'll see what I mean. What look like soaring parapets and arches on the fortress structures are actually smaller than your character, causing a disorienting look up close.
However I find it equally distorting when you are approaching a rendered object and it blurs in and out of focus, or only parts of it come into focus; causing another visually unappealing effect.
I think at this point it would not be anyone's interest to divert the resources away from GW2 development, or GWB content development.
